May - Driving For Work

Our speakers this month were Wendy Barnard and Pete Marsh from British European Track Days.

Small businesses rely heavily on the mobility of their staff, whether that is simply driving to work or to business meetings. Few people consider the need for further training after they have obtained their driving licence but the rules of the road are always being refined, vehicle technology changes and driving for work now falls under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act and so occasional retraining is vital.  This can help with risk reduction leading to cheaper insurance costs, economy in vehicle maintenance, prolonging the life of a vehicle and its components as well as improved well-being for the driver.

British European Track Days offers driver training on the road or track, in the UK and Europe, for individuals and businesses.  We are a Dorset-based company with trainers throughout the UK.  We believe that drivers drive in the same way as they run their lives (cautions people are cautious drivers) so we use a unique system (Developing Drivers) of understanding all aspects of driving from the trainee's minds-eye-view that allows us to orient our training to the individual.  We offer mature and practical training starting in the classroom and progressing to the car, accompanied by highly qualified driving consultants who are all DSA ADI trained with some also being ARDS racing instructor qualified too.

The talk was founded on the Police System of Car Control and a process of Observation-Anticipation-Planning.  In this case, the focus was on just one aspect, Observation and members were helped to review and refresh their minds on the meaning of road signs.
